But Lebanese soldiers opened fire on the Israelis who were working and in no way acting aggressively. The fact that journalists were standing next to the Lebanese soldiers shows that they knew Israel was going to do this maintenance and were observing. After the Israeli soldiers were ambushed, they returned fire. One Israeli officer was killed, another seriously wounded; three Lebanese soldiers, and a Lebanese (?) journalist were killed.

Straight out of Orwell -- news-speak, double-speak, double-think. Kill someone and then blame them for killing you.

I don't know where you are, but here in the USA the media bias is pro-Israel. That is slowly changing as Israel changes minds. I was once strongly pro-Israel until my mind was changed. Still, the media generally lags behind such changes in public sentiment.

Not likely by any means (yes, that's a hyperlink with documentation). I live in the U.S.

PDeuth,
It takes a great deal of something to ignore this.
Apparently, you've got it.

Idiots, perhaps, would believe the Israelis opened fire first.

I believe we are shaped by our upbringing and cultural context. When people keep being trained to demonize Israel, who knows what they see, here, and feel -- despite the reality.

I don't know about you, but this gives me more energy to expose the falsity and shove the truth under as many noses as possible. Can't give up.
Circle the wagons.
Tune out the noise.
Peace through strength.
You want it back. Come pry it, from my cold dead fingers.

Yes. Think of it. Israel is one of the most successful, innovative, creative places on earth (and a great place to invest). They've turned adversity into opportunity, which says a heck of a lot about Israeli character.
Microsoft's CEO, Steve Balmer: "Microsoft is as much an Israeli company as an American company, because of the importance of its Israeli technologies..."
I feel the same. The more I'm pushed, the harder I work to fight the Big Lie.

The way BBC's report explained it today was revealing, but I doubt any Arab will hear of it. Anyway, Israel informed UN observers of its peaceful intention, and there was no problem. Then Lebanon hauled out a sniper and a known Hezbullah "reporter" to record the murderous attack. The UN backs Israel on this one.

Are times a' changin'? Was this incident just too obvious to ignore? Or has hell frozen over?

Well, if you notice, it's gone now. There's no more media coverage. It died.
But if Israel was in the wrong........?

For trimming hedges?
And-- a key point-- they were definitely on the Israeli side of the border.
Here's what al-Jazeera reported:
"The United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon has confirmed that Israeli troops did not cross into Lebanon during Tuesday's deadly border skirmish.
""Unifil established... that the trees being cut by the Israeli army are located south of the Blue Line on the Israeli side," le Roy said, reading from a Unifil communique issued earlier on Wednesday.
Le Roy also confirmed that the Israeli army notified Unifil "several hours" before starting the operation, and that Unifil passed the information to the Lebanese army.
"We had been informed by the Israeli authorities of their intention to do this operation, and immediately as procedure we informed the Lebanese side," le Roy said.

Even al-Jazeera agree with Israel??!?!?!?
Yes-- that's why I used that source (since usually their anti-Israel bias is so strong!).

Yeah - I just find it fascinating to watch human/societal evolution and drama.

Hey walking into a DMZ to trim hedges and cut down trees just to pass some casual make work for the troops, How could Lebanon take that as being aggressive. Heck Americans casually walk the North Korean DMZ on a daily basis picking sun flowers and pulling weeds, and the North Koreans never ever think that there is anything wrong with that.

That is not a DMZ-- its south of the Blue Line, therefore its Israeli territory:
that the trees being cut by the Israeli army are located south of the Blue Line on the Israeli side," le Roy said
This is not Korea-- there is no "DMZ". Homes are built right up to the border!!!
On most of the border, the fence demarcates the border. However, in three places Israeli territory extends north of the fence-- the fence being built a bit off the border becsause of the geography. (No DMZ---
If you like to know more about the border, here's an excellent article-- from a while back, but great info and some amazing photos: The Lebanese/Israeli Border

Good photo's, yep no DMZ there. Heck they could fire BB guns at each other from that range.

Pity, if there was peace , everyone could get along amicably with their "next door" neighbours.
Before the PLO destroyed Lebanon, many of the country's people did look favorably on Israel. After all, Lebanon's Beirut used to be the "Paris of the East."

Here's a bit of trivia I discovered a while back.; Beirut has a patron Saint (when the country was created, it had a Christian majorty). And guess who it is? Saint George!
